Leo Motard was a self-taught musician who played all genres – rock, jazz, classical and contemporary and he became master of the saxophone and clarinet. During WW II, Leo enlisted as band master and entertained troops. After the war, Leo played with various bands in upstate New York performing with prominent musicians from the Big Apple. In Ottawa, Leo was a member of the famous Champagne Orchestra at the Chateau Laurier and performed regularly at the Standish Hall in Hull.
Perhaps Leo Motard’s greatest legacy was the founding of a musical dynasty. Two of his sons, Henri and Raymond performed with him and his daughter Thérèse is an internationally renowned cellist.
